The Challenge
In mid-October 2022, multiple Victorian communities across 63 out of 79 councils experienced severe flooding, with thousands of homes and businesses inundated. Given the extensive damage, Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) was activated to lead the flood recovery on behalf of the State Government.
The Solution
Through a pre-negotiated panel arrangement, ERV appointed Forge Solutions as the managing contractor for the state-wide flood recovery effort on behalf of the Victorian Government. Within 6 hours of engagement, Forge Solutions’ disaster response team was on-the-ground in the affected communities to survey damage and delivery rapid support to the recovery. This rapid deployment enabled Forge Solutions to inform recovery program design based on early impacts.
The Outcome
The Victorian flood recovery is considered by many to be a model example of fast and effective disaster management. ERV’s pre-negotiated panel arrangement allowed for rapid engagement and deployment of Forge Solutions as the managing contractor for the recovery. Additionally, by utilising a managing contractor for debris management, we were able to draw from a larger pool of resources to expedite the clean-up. Importantly, through our close working relationship with ERV, we were able to give displaced residents a ‘home-away-from-home’ and help communities on the road to recovery faster than ever before in Australia.
